After years of installing Britax seats at car seat inspection events and using the Boulevard ClickTight in our own family for over two years, I can tell you exactly what makes Britax different from every other brand: the ClickTight installation system and the SafeCell impact-absorbing base. No other manufacturer has anything comparable to either feature, and together they make Britax the brand I recommend most for parents who prioritize crash protection above all else.
This guide covers every current Britax convertible car seat, with honest assessments of who each model is best for. If you’re ready to buy, you can browse all Britax convertible car seats on Amazon to compare current prices.

Why Britax Stands Out
Every Britax convertible car seat shares a core set of safety features that you won’t find at this level on any other brand. The SafeCell impact-absorbing base compresses during a crash to absorb energy before it reaches your child — think of it as a crumple zone built into the car seat itself. The steel frame provides structural integrity that plastic-only seats can’t match. And the V-shaped tether on forward-facing models is a staged-release system that controls forward movement more effectively than a standard single-point tether.
But the real game-changer is ClickTight. Available on the Boulevard, Advocate, and Marathon models, ClickTight lets you open a panel on the front of the seat, route the seat belt through a clearly marked path, close the panel, and you’re done. The seat belt locks automatically with the correct tension every time. At inspection events, I see ClickTight seats installed correctly far more often than any other brand — because the system makes it nearly impossible to get wrong.
Current Britax Convertible Lineup
Britax currently sells four convertible car seats. Here’s how they compare and who each one is best for.
Britax Advocate ClickTight — Best Overall Protection
The Britax Advocate ClickTight is Britax’s flagship convertible and the seat with the most crash protection features of any convertible on the market. It has three layers of side-impact protection (an energy-absorbing shell, foam-lined headrest, and external cushions), the ClickTight installation system, a 14-position harness with the Click & Safe snug indicator, and SafeCell impact protection. It handles rear-facing from 5-40 lbs and forward-facing from 20-65 lbs with a 10-year expiration.
The tradeoff is weight and size — at over 30 pounds, the Advocate is one of the heaviest convertible seats available. It’s not the seat you want to move between vehicles regularly or take on airplane trips. But if it’s going in one car and staying there, the Advocate provides the maximum level of protection Britax offers. For our detailed take, see our Britax Advocate review.
Britax Boulevard ClickTight — Best Balance of Safety and Practicality
The Britax Boulevard ClickTight is the convertible I recommend most often from Britax’s lineup. It has two layers of side-impact protection, the ClickTight system, a 10-position no-rethread harness, the Click & Safe snug indicator, and the same SafeCell base and steel frame as the Advocate — all at a lower price point and several pounds lighter.
The Boulevard covers rear-facing from 5-40 lbs and forward-facing from 20-65 lbs with a 10-year expiration. For most families, the Boulevard offers the best balance between Britax’s premium safety features and everyday usability. Unless you specifically want the third layer of side-impact protection, the Boulevard gives you everything the Advocate has at a better price. See our Boulevard ClickTight review for the full breakdown.
Britax Marathon ClickTight — Best Value ClickTight Seat
The Britax Marathon ClickTight is the entry point into Britax’s ClickTight lineup and the most affordable way to get the ClickTight installation system. It has one layer of side-impact protection (the deep protective shell), the same SafeCell base and steel frame, and the same ClickTight system as the Boulevard and Advocate.
The Marathon covers the same weight ranges (5-40 lbs rear-facing, 20-65 lbs forward-facing) with a 10-year expiration. What you’re giving up compared to the Boulevard is one layer of side-impact protection and a few convenience features. If ClickTight installation is your top priority and you want to keep the price as low as possible while staying with Britax, the Marathon is the smart pick. For more details, see our Marathon ClickTight review.
Britax One4Life — Best Britax All-in-One
The Britax One4Life is Britax’s all-in-one seat that covers four stages: rear-facing harness (5-50 lbs), forward-facing harness (22-65 lbs), highback booster (40-120 lbs), and backless booster (40-120 lbs). With a 10-year expiration, this is genuinely a one-seat solution from birth through elementary school.
The One4Life includes ClickTight installation, two layers of side-impact protection, and the SafeCell base. The 50-pound rear-facing limit is significantly higher than the 40-pound limit on the other Britax convertibles, which means most children can stay rear-facing until age 4 or beyond. If you want one Britax seat for the long haul, this is it.
Which Britax Should You Choose?
For most families, the Boulevard ClickTight is the sweet spot — it has everything that makes Britax special at a price that doesn’t stretch into premium territory. If maximum crash protection matters most and the seat will stay in one vehicle, go with the Advocate. If you want ClickTight on a budget, the Marathon delivers. And if you want one seat from birth through booster age, the One4Life is the most cost-effective long-term option.
Whatever Britax model you choose, you’re getting the SafeCell impact-absorbing base, a steel frame, and engineering from a company that has been at the forefront of child passenger safety for over 50 years. You can compare all Britax models and current prices on Amazon.
