The ClickTight Advantage
The ClickTight installation system is what sets the Boulevard apart from Britax’s budget Essentials line (Allegiance, Emblem). You lift a panel on the front of the seat, route the vehicle’s seat belt through a clearly marked path, and close the panel. The belt locks automatically and the installation is rock-solid — there’s no knee-in-the-seat wrestling, no LATCH weight limits to worry about, and it works in virtually any vehicle.
I’ve installed the Boulevard ClickTight in four different vehicles (sedan, SUV, minivan, and a compact car), and every installation took under two minutes and passed the one-inch test on the first try. That’s remarkable consistency, and it’s the reason certified technicians routinely cite ClickTight as the easiest belt-installation system on the market.
The Boulevard also includes LATCH connectors, though Britax clearly designed ClickTight as the preferred method. LATCH installation on this seat is workable but more cumbersome — the hook-style connectors can require some twisting to remove from the vehicle anchors. If you plan to use LATCH exclusively, know that it has the standard 65 lb combined weight limit (child + seat).
Safety
Two layers of side-impact protection — an energy-absorbing shell and a foam-lined headrest — provide coverage for the head, neck, and torso. This is one layer more than the Marathon and one less than the Advocate, putting the Boulevard squarely in the middle of the ClickTight lineup for side-impact coverage.
The SafeCell impact-absorbing base compresses during a collision to reduce the crash forces transferred to your child. The steel-reinforced frame provides structural integrity at the connection point to the vehicle, and Britax’s patented V-shaped tether minimizes both forward movement and seat rotation during a frontal crash.
The Click and Safe harness indicator provides an audible click when the harness is properly tightened, which removes the guesswork from the pinch test — a feature I found genuinely useful during the sleep-deprived early months when I wasn’t always confident in my own judgment.
The auto-level indicators show whether the seat is at the correct recline angle, and the 7 recline positions give you plenty of range to find the right angle as your child grows and transitions from rear-facing to forward-facing.
Comfort and Daily Use
This is where the Boulevard truly earns its premium pricing. The padding is noticeably plush compared to the Marathon, and the Cool Flow ventilated mesh fabric helps prevent the sweaty-back problem that plagues many car seats in warm weather. The 14-position harness adjusts smoothly without rethreading, and the 2-position buckle accommodates growing kids well.
The easy-buckle system keeps the straps spread apart and out of the way when you’re loading your child in — a small feature that saves real frustration on a daily basis. The cover removes for cleaning without detaching the harness, and it’s machine-washable (unlike the hand-wash-only covers on the Allegiance and Emblem).
At 18.5 inches wide, the Boulevard fits in most vehicles without crowding adjacent seats. The 24.9 lb weight is moderate for a ClickTight seat — heavier than the Essentials line but lighter than the Advocate.
Boulevard vs Marathon
The Boulevard and Marathon share virtually identical dimensions, weight ranges, harness positions, and recline angles. The two meaningful differences: the Boulevard has two layers of side-impact protection versus the Marathon’s one, and the Boulevard has the Click and Safe harness indicator. The Boulevard is slightly heavier (24.9 vs 28.5 lbs) and typically costs more.
For most families, the Boulevard’s extra layer of head and neck protection is worth the modest price increase. If budget is tight or you need the lightest possible option, the Marathon delivers the same ClickTight installation and core SafeCell protection. Pros and Cons
What I like: ClickTight installation makes a secure install nearly foolproof, two layers of side-impact protection at a narrower width than the Advocate, the Click and Safe harness indicator removes guesswork from harness tightening, premium padding and Cool Flow fabric for comfort on long trips, machine-washable cover, 7 recline positions with auto-level indicators, and the 10-year expiration.
What could be better: LATCH connectors are harder to remove than some competitors, at 24.9 lbs it’s heavy for frequent vehicle transfers, no cup holder included (sold separately), and it’s the most expensive of the three ClickTight models despite having fewer protection layers than the Advocate.
The Verdict
The Britax Boulevard ClickTight is my default recommendation for families who want a Britax convertible seat. It hits the sweet spot between the Marathon (fewer protection layers) and the Advocate (wider and heavier), delivering enhanced safety, premium comfort, and the ClickTight system in a manageable 18.5-inch width. The optional anti-rebound bar adds even more rear-facing protection if you want to maximize safety.
