We moved our oldest into the Britax Highpoint after she outgrew the harness on her convertible seat, and it’s been one of our best booster purchases. The three layers of side-impact protection give it crash protection that rivals much more expensive options, the 10-position headrest adjusts easily as she grows, and the IIHS “Best Bet” rating confirmed what I already felt: this is a seriously well-built booster. At 12 pounds it’s not the lightest option, but the build quality and safety features justify the weight.
The Highpoint covers children from 40-120 lbs and 38-63 inches tall, converting from a highback booster to a backless booster when your child is ready. Here’s my detailed take after more than a year of daily use.

Safety
The Highpoint’s three layers of side-impact protection are the standout safety feature: an energy-absorbing shell, foam-lined side cushions, and a protective headrest. Together, these create deep side walls that shield the head, torso, and pelvis — the three areas most vulnerable in a side-impact collision.
The 10-position adjustable headrest lets you dial in the right height as your child grows, ensuring the side protection always covers the right areas. I appreciate that you can adjust the headrest without removing the seat from the car.
Britax’s SecureGuard clip is a feature I haven’t seen on most other boosters. It keeps the vehicle lap belt positioned correctly across your child’s hips rather than riding up over the abdomen. This matters because an improperly positioned lap belt can cause serious abdominal injuries in a crash. The SecureGuard essentially trains kids to wear the belt correctly as they transition from a harnessed seat.
Color-coded belt guides make installation simple and reduce the chance of routing the belt incorrectly. The IIHS rates the Highpoint as a “Best Bet” (good belt fit in most vehicles), and NHTSA gives it a 5-star overall ease-of-use rating.
Comfort and Daily Use
The soft, breathable fabric keeps my daughter comfortable on longer drives without the sweaty-back complaints we got with some other boosters. The built-in armrests give kids a place to rest their arms, and the two removable cup holders are genuinely useful (and dishwasher safe, which is a nice touch for the inevitable spilled juice).
Removing the cup holders also makes the seat narrower when you need to fit it into a tighter space. The seat cover is removable for cleaning, though it’s hand-wash only rather than machine-washable — the one area where I wish Britax had gone the extra mile.
Converting from highback to backless mode is straightforward: you release the back section and lift it off. A few parents have noted it requires a firm pull, which can feel like you’re forcing it the first time, but it’s designed to be snug so it doesn’t detach accidentally.
Britax Highpoint vs Britax Skyline
The Skyline is the Highpoint’s sibling in the Britax booster lineup, and they share most features: the same 10-year expiration, 10-position headrest, breathable fabric, removable cup holders, color-coded belt guides, and 2-stage conversion.
The two key differences: the Highpoint has three layers of side-impact protection versus the Skyline’s two layers, and the Highpoint includes the SecureGuard lap belt clip while the Skyline does not. These extras make the Highpoint slightly heavier (about 1 lb more) and slightly more expensive. If you want the maximum protection Britax offers in a booster, go with the Highpoint. If you want to save a bit and the two layers of protection are sufficient, the Skyline is a solid alternative.
Installation
The Highpoint arrives fully assembled — take it out of the box, remove the tags, and you’re ready to go. Quick-push LATCH connectors secure the seat to the vehicle’s LATCH anchors, keeping it stable when your child climbs in and out (LATCH is optional on boosters but keeps the seat from sliding around when unoccupied). The color-coded belt guides show exactly where to route the vehicle seat belt.
Pros and Cons
What I like: the three layers of side-impact protection provide excellent crash coverage, the SecureGuard clip teaches proper belt positioning, the 10-position headrest adjusts easily without removing the seat, the 2-stage design (highback to backless) extends the seat’s useful life, the dishwasher-safe cup holders are a practical detail, and the IIHS “Best Bet” rating provides independent validation.
What could be better: the seat cover is hand-wash only (not machine-washable), at 12 lbs it’s heavier than budget boosters if you need to move it between vehicles regularly, and the highback-to-backless conversion requires a firm pull that can feel alarming the first time.
The Verdict
The Britax Highpoint is one of the best highback boosters available. The combination of three-layer side-impact protection, SecureGuard belt positioning, IIHS “Best Bet” rating, and 10-year expiration makes it a strong long-term investment. It’s not the cheapest booster on the market, but the safety features and build quality justify the premium.
I’d recommend it for families who want top-tier booster protection and plan to keep the seat in one vehicle (rather than moving it daily). If your child is transitioning from a harnessed seat and you want something that provides excellent protection through the booster years, the Highpoint delivers.
