I installed the Cybex Sirona M in our family SUV expecting premium build quality, and it delivered on that front — the materials feel solid, the magnetic buckle holders are brilliant for loading kids, and the SensorSafe alerts give you real peace of mind on every drive. But NHTSA’s ease-of-use ratings tell a mixed story, and the seat’s bulky width makes three-across impossible. Here’s my honest take after months of daily use.
This review covers who the Sirona M works best for, its safety features and NHTSA ratings, full specs, and a detailed comparison with the Evenflo Gold EveryStage — which offers the same SensorSafe technology at a significantly lower price.

Who is the Cybex Sirona M best for?
The Sirona M is built for parents who want SensorSafe smart monitoring in a convertible car seat. Like the Cybex Aton 2 infant seat, it sends smartphone alerts if the chest clip unbuckles during a drive, if the car’s ambient temperature gets too hot, if your child may have been left behind, or if drive time has been extended. For parents transitioning from the Aton 2, the Sirona M keeps that same monitoring as your child grows.
The 10-position recline and 12-position headrest give it excellent adjustability, and the magnetic buckle holders genuinely make loading and unloading faster. However, it’s expensive, bulky (20″ wide), and NHTSA gave it just 1 out of 5 stars for installation features — people with larger hands may struggle with the belt path. If you want SensorSafe technology at a lower price with a longer lifespan (booster mode included), the Evenflo Gold EveryStage is worth serious consideration.
Pros and cons
Pros
- SensorSafe 2.0 sends real-time alerts to your phone for unbuckling, hot car, left-behind, and drive time scenarios
- Magnetic buckle holders keep straps out of the way for fast loading and unloading
- 12-position adjustable headrest with no-rethread harness — one-motion height changes
- 10-position recline gives excellent angle options for both rear-facing and forward-facing
- Energy-absorbing shell with linear side-impact protection (pop-out component)
- Ball levels on both sides confirm proper installation angle
- One-pull LATCH removal for quick uninstallation
- Onboard LATCH storage when using seat belt installation
- Machine-washable fabric and dishwasher-safe cup holder
- German-engineered build quality — materials feel noticeably premium
Cons
- NHTSA rated installation features just 1/5 stars — tight belt path is difficult for larger hands
- No recline position labels on the seat itself — you have to guess which settings are for rear-facing vs. forward-facing
- 20″ width makes three-across seating impossible in most vehicles
- Premium price point — one of the most expensive convertible seats
- Only two modes (rear-facing and forward-facing) — no booster mode, so you’ll need a separate booster seat later
- Seat belt can cover the crotch buckle strap if not positioned carefully
- No splitter plate — the two LATCH straps can become uneven during tightening
Safety ratings
NHTSA’s ease-of-use evaluation for the Cybex Sirona M:
- Labels: 3/5 stars — labels don’t explain LATCH installation
- Instructions: 3/5 stars — some instructions incomplete, no photo of fully installed seat
- Securing the child: 3/5 stars
- Installation features: 1/5 stars — tight belt path difficult for larger hands
- Overall ease of use: 3/5 stars
The 1-star installation rating is concerning for a seat at this price point. The belt path is genuinely tight, and if you plan to use the seat belt (rather than LATCH) for installation, test it in your vehicle before committing. The LATCH installation is significantly easier thanks to the one-pull removal system.
On the crash protection side, the Sirona M has an energy-absorbing shell and a pop-out linear side-impact protection component. Cybex states they conduct hundreds of crash tests annually. The SensorSafe technology adds monitoring but doesn’t directly improve crash performance.
The Sirona M has an 8-year expiration. You’ll find the date on the underside of the seat.

Key features
SensorSafe 2.0 smart monitoring. A sensor in the chest clip communicates through a vehicle receiver (OBD-II port) to the Cybex app on your phone. It monitors the same four conditions as the Aton 2 infant seat: clip unbuckled, child left in car, high temperature, and extended drive time. If you’re upgrading from the Aton 2, the system works identically.
Magnetic buckle holders. Small magnets hold the harness straps to the sides of the seat when unbuckled, keeping them out of the way while you load or unload your child. This sounds minor but it’s one of those features you miss immediately when using a different seat.
12-position headrest with no-rethread harness. The headrest and harness move together in a single motion — no rethreading required. Twelve positions give you fine-grained height adjustment as your child grows, and the adjustment is smooth and one-handed.
10-position recline. More recline options than most convertible seats, which is particularly useful for rear-facing in vehicles where the front seat is close. Ball levels on both sides of the seat show when you’ve hit the right angle.
Installation tips
- Use LATCH installation if possible — the seat belt path earned only 1/5 stars from NHTSA for a reason
- The one-pull LATCH removal system is excellent but make sure both straps are equally tight (no splitter plate means they can drift)
- Check ball levels on both sides after installation — the ball should sit in the appropriate zone for your chosen mode
- When switching between rear-facing and forward-facing, note that the seat itself doesn’t label which recline positions are for which mode — consult the manual
- Store the LATCH connectors in the onboard storage spot when using seat belt installation to keep them from rattling

The Evenflo Gold EveryStage is the better value by a wide margin. It offers three modes instead of two (including a booster that takes your child to 120 lbs), a higher rear-facing weight limit (50 vs. 40 lbs), a longer 10-year expiration, and the same SensorSafe technology — all at a significantly lower price. The Sirona M’s advantages are its magnetic buckle holders, slightly more headrest positions, and premium German build quality. Unless you specifically want the Cybex brand and feel, the EveryStage is the smarter buy.
What’s included
The Sirona M comes with a removable cup holder (attaches to either side, dishwasher-safe), a newborn insert for babies up to 11 pounds, and the SensorSafe vehicle receiver for the smart alert system.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Cybex Sirona M worth the premium price?
It depends on what you value. If magnetic buckle holders, German build quality, and the Cybex brand matter to you, it’s a well-made seat. But the Evenflo Gold EveryStage offers the same SensorSafe technology with more modes and a longer lifespan for less money. The NHTSA 1-star installation rating is also worth considering.
Can I fit the Sirona M three-across?
Very unlikely. At 20 inches wide, it’s one of the bulkier convertible seats. For three-across setups, look at narrower options like the Diono Radian RXT (16.7″ wide).
How long can my child use the Cybex Sirona M?
Rear-facing from 5-40 lbs (until head is 1″ below headrest top), then forward-facing from 22-65 lbs up to 49″ tall. Most children use it from birth through age 4-5, then need a separate booster seat.
Does the SensorSafe work the same as in the Aton 2?
Yes, it uses the same vehicle receiver and smartphone app. If you’re upgrading from the Aton 2, you can use your existing receiver — just pair the new seat’s clip in the app.
Can I wash the seat cover?
Yes. The fabric cover, shoulder pads, buckle pad, and infant insert are all machine washable. They must be line-dried. The cup holder is dishwasher-safe.
Our verdict
The Cybex Sirona M is a premium convertible seat with genuinely useful smart monitoring and thoughtful convenience features like magnetic buckle holders. However, the high price, NHTSA’s low installation rating, and the lack of a booster mode make it hard to recommend over the Evenflo Gold EveryStage, which delivers the same SensorSafe technology in a more versatile, longer-lasting package for less money.
