Britax Boulevard ClickTight Car Seat Instructions (2026): Installation, Adjustment, and Cleaning Guide

Britax Boulevard Car Seat Instructions

Britax Boulevard ClickTight convertible car seat installation guide

The Britax Boulevard ClickTight is the convertible seat I recommend most often to parents who dread installation day. The ClickTight system genuinely changed how I think about car seat setup — you open a panel, thread the seat belt through a clearly marked path, close the panel, and you’re done. No knee-in-the-seat wrestling match. I’ve installed this seat in over a dozen vehicles now, and the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to make sure the belt lies completely flat before closing the panel. One twist and you’ll have to start over. This guide covers every installation method plus harness adjustments, the anti-rebound bar, and cleaning.

Using the ClickTight System

Almost every installation method on the Boulevard uses the ClickTight panel. To open it, locate the ClickTight dial at the front of the seating area, press down on the dimple, and rotate the key clockwise. The panel lifts up to reveal the belt path. After routing the belt, close the panel firmly — the ClickTight logo returns to horizontal position when properly secured, and you’ll hear a solid click.

Forward-Facing Installation with Lap-Shoulder Belt (22–65 lbs)

  1. Remove the tether from its storage compartment and drape it over the seat back.
  2. Place the seat forward-facing on the vehicle seat. It should not overhang the vehicle seat edge by more than 3 inches. Make sure the vehicle headrest doesn’t interfere.
  3. Open the ClickTight panel.
  4. Thread the vehicle seat belt through the forward-facing belt slots and buckle it. Make sure the belt is flat with no twists.
  5. Remove all slack from both the lap and shoulder portions of the belt.
  6. Close the ClickTight panel until you hear the click.
  7. Attach the top tether to your vehicle’s tether anchor and tighten until snug.
  8. Test the installation — the seat should not move more than one inch at the belt path.

Forward-Facing with Lap Belt Only (Center Seat)

For vehicles with a lap-only belt in the center position:

  1. Remove the tether and drape it over the seat back.
  2. Place the seat forward-facing on the center vehicle seat (no more than 3 inches of overhang, headrest clear).
  3. Open the ClickTight panel.
  4. Thread only the lap belt through the forward-facing belt slots. Buckle and remove all slack by pressing down on the seat.
  5. Close the ClickTight panel until you hear the click.
  6. Attach and tighten the top tether.
  7. Verify less than one inch of movement at the belt path.

Rear-Facing Installation with Lap-Shoulder Belt (5–40 lbs)

  1. Open the ClickTight panel and set the seat to the reclined position.
  2. Place the seat rear-facing on the vehicle seat.
  3. Thread the vehicle seat belt through the rear-facing belt slots (clearly marked, different from forward-facing slots). Make sure the belt is flat and not twisted.
  4. Buckle the belt and remove all slack.
  5. Close the ClickTight panel — listen for the click.
  6. Check the recline angle using the bubble level indicator on the side of the seat. If you need more recline, place a tightly rolled towel or pool noodle under the front edge of the base.
  7. Verify the seat moves no more than one inch in any direction at the belt path.

Rear-Facing Installation with LATCH Connectors

  1. Remove the LATCH connectors from their storage compartment at the back of the base.
  2. Open the ClickTight panel, recline the seat, and place it rear-facing on the vehicle seat.
  3. Extend the lower LATCH connector strap to full length.
  4. Thread the strap through the rear-facing belt slots.
  5. Connect both LATCH hooks firmly to the vehicle’s lower anchors. Ensure no twists in the strap.
  6. Remove all slack by pulling the tightening strap.
  7. Close the ClickTight panel.
  8. Adjust recline angle with a towel or pool noodle if needed.
  9. Verify less than one inch of movement at the belt path.

Rear-Facing with Lap Belt Only (Center Seat)

  1. Open the ClickTight panel, recline the seat, and place it rear-facing.
  2. Thread the lap belt through the rear-facing belt slots. Make sure it’s flat and not twisted.
  3. Buckle the belt and remove all slack.
  4. Close the ClickTight panel.
  5. Use a towel or pool noodle under the base if more recline is needed.

Anti-Rebound Bar Installation

The anti-rebound bar (ARB) reduces rearward rotation during a crash and is recommended for all rear-facing installations.

  1. Behind the red markers on the base, pull back the seat cover to expose the ends of the structure tube.
  2. Orient the rebound bar with the notch facing up.
  3. Insert the bar into the ends of the structure tube on both sides.
  4. Install the seat using any rear-facing method above.
  5. The ClickTight panel closure secures the bar in place.

Cup Holder Installation

  1. Locate the Britax cup holder and ClickTight clip.
  2. Insert the ClickTight clip into the cup holder.
  3. Slide the clip into the belt path on the side of the seat until it clicks securely.

Harness Adjustments

Loosening the Harness

Locate the harness adjuster button above the ClickTight dial. Press the button and pull the shoulder straps toward you to loosen.

Tightening the Harness

Place your child in the seat, buckle the harness, position the chest clip at armpit level, and pull the harness adjustment strap at the front of the seat to snug the straps. You should not be able to pinch any excess webbing at the shoulder.

Adjusting Shoulder Height

The Boulevard has a no-rethread harness — you can change the harness height without removing the straps.

  1. Loosen the harness fully using the adjuster button.
  2. At the back of the seat, locate the harness height adjuster.
  3. Squeeze the adjuster buttons together and slide the harness to the correct shoulder height.
  4. For rear-facing: straps should be at or below the child’s shoulders.
  5. For forward-facing: straps should be at or above the child’s shoulders.

Standard vs. Extra Room Harness Position

To switch between standard and extra room positions, open the ClickTight panel and lift the seat. Disconnect the harness strap ends from their anchors, reroute them through (or around) the metal bar behind the anchor point, and reconnect. The extra room position gives larger children more space in the harness.

Recline Adjustment

Locate the recline handle at the front of the base. Pull it to adjust the angle. Use the built-in bubble level indicator to confirm the recline is appropriate for your child’s age and developmental stage — younger babies who can’t sit independently need a more reclined angle.

Cleaning Instructions

Seat Shell

Remove the seat from the vehicle. Vacuum crumbs and debris from the shell using a small nozzle attachment. Wipe down all plastic and metal surfaces with a damp cloth and mild all-purpose cleaner.

Seat Cover

Remove the cover by loosening the harness, opening the ClickTight panel, disconnecting the elastic loops from the base, and working the cover off from front to back. Machine wash in cold water with mild detergent on a gentle cycle. Air dry or tumble dry on low. Reassemble once completely dry.

Harness Straps and Hardware

Wipe straps and buckles with a damp cloth and mild soap. Air dry only. Never submerge, bleach, or machine wash the harness webbing — this can weaken the material and compromise safety.

Harness Removal and Replacement

Full harness removal is needed for deep cleaning or strap replacement. This is a detailed process involving removing the hip retainer clips, harness yoke, chest clip, and comfort pads. Consult the owner’s manual for the complete step-by-step procedure, and take photos before disassembly so you can reference them during reassembly. When reinstalling, make sure no straps are twisted and test that the harness tightens and loosens smoothly before putting the seat back in the vehicle.
