Walmart has hosted a car seat trade-in event in the past, in partnership with TerraCycle, a global waste management company that specializes in hard-to-recycle items like car seats. The event took place in September 2019, and customers who traded in a used car seat received a $30 Walmart gift card. All car seats collected in the program were recycled through TerraCycle, and each component was diverted from the landfill.
While Walmart has not announced any future car seat trade-in events, parents can still recycle their car seats through TerraCycle. The company offers a variety of recycling programs for baby gear, including car seats, strollers, and high chairs. To participate, parents simply need to purchase a TerraCycle Zero Waste Box or Pallet for their desired item(s) and fill it up. Once the box or pallet is full, it can be shipped back to TerraCycle for free.
Benefits of Recycling Car Seats
There are several benefits to recycling car seats.
First, it helps to reduce waste and protect the environment. Car seats are made from a variety of materials, including plastic, metal, and foam. When car seats are thrown away in landfills, they can take hundreds of years to decompose. Recycling car seats helps to keep these materials out of landfills and conserve natural resources.
Second, recycling car seats helps to ensure that they are disposed of safely. Car seats can contain hazardous materials, such as lead and cadmium. If car seats are not disposed of properly, these materials can leach into the environment and contaminate soil and water. Recycling car seats helps to ensure that they are disposed of in a way that protects human health and the environment.
How to Recycle Car Seats with TerraCycle
To recycle your car seat with TerraCycle, follow these steps:

Growing up I was a carefree male going about life like there was no tomorrow. Naturally, I ‘grew’ up, settled down and started a family.
Going from an independent carefree male to a family man was somewhat of a U-turn and required a lot of learning. Luckily for me, my wife works in education and has always been the shining light always ahead of me on all factors kids related.
Initially, my wife didn’t have a driving license (luckily this has now changed and it does make life easier), and all things car related were my task. Child locks were the obvious starting point which lead me down a rabbit hole.
So far we have personally tested dozens of convertible car seats and have owned five despite neither of our kids having reached the age of 5! Simply put, a car seat can be great on paper, work great on trying out but can fail on you in real life.
This is why I have put together this website – to help inform and educate you!
Of course, as I mentioned above, at the end of the day your experience will be the best test so I’d love to hear your experiences and feedback in the comments.
To contact me personally, please do so through my contact page.
I look forward to hearing from you!
